West Midlands Young Athletes League, Race 4 – Nuneaton, Sun 15th January

Rugby & Northampton AC went to the fourth in the series of West Midlands Cross Country league races in the knowledge that a top class performance was required to cement their second overall position and the athletes did not disappoint !

For the U11 boys, Alex Kampta led the way in a magnificent second position, followed closely behind by team mates David Allen and Miles Taylor with the team claiming second position. The U11 girls race also saw Bella Lamb race to second place just a metre behind the winner.

The U13 boys ran really well with Freddie Love leading a big group of R & N finishers. The U13 girls race saw the rapidly improving Emily Gascoigne lead the R & N charge in 8th position, as the team were pipped to gold by Stratford AC. Dylan Mander had his strongest ever run in leading home the R & N U15B contingent in 14th position, as the team packed well behind him.

Olivia McGhee was imperious in the U15G race as she strode to victory by over 20 seconds with Evie Marston also producing a stunning run to claim third position. Just behind Evie came Ella Darby, Jemima Cooper and Sophie Hancock, who were all separated by a few metres.

The U17W saw Grace Darcy battle to the line just in front of Madeleine Jacks with a group of R & N runners not far behind. The U17M also packed really well with Arthur Tilt, Thomas Brinkley and Ben Smith all finishing close together just behind the leaders.

The action now turns to the Midlands Championships in Leamington where the R & N athletes will line up alongside the best of the Midlands.
