Rugby & Northampton produce best ever performance at the Midland Road Relays

Under-15 boys cap brilliant season to finish second in regional competition

Rugby & Northampton Athletic Club’s under-15 boys team of Adam Searle, Joshua Lay and Joe Musgrove capped a fantastic 2014 season with a brilliant performance at the Midlands Road Relays to earn silver in a 35-team field.Midlands Road Relay 2014

Searle and Lay’s respective times of 13:16 and 13:20 were the sixth and seventh fastest of the day, with Musgrove running the distance in 13:38 to secure a team total of 40:14, 16 seconds ahead of third-placed City of Stoke and 45 seconds behind winners Charnwood.

Emer Wintsch (14:54) and Charis Hayes (16:39) impressed in the under-15 girls event at Sutton Park following an outstanding season on the track, finishing ninth and 66th respectively. The pair were the only two competing in the event for R&N so didn’t receive a team ranking.

Emily Waugh and Tilly Lea were also without a third team member, but showed their qualities as Waugh finished the 5k course in 15:38, the 12th quickest time of the day, with Lea recording a time of 18:12.

The Senior Men’s event saw the R&N A team finish 27th out of 81 teams, with Jacob Allen’s 18:07 over the 5.85k course the sixth fastest leg of the day. Vincent Carroll (21:26), Daniel Williams (21:42), Michael Andrews (21:12), Pete Belfield (20:56) and Alistair McDonnell (21:47) completed the R&N team.

The B team came home in 57th place overall, with Colin Durant (21:41) leading the way. Stephen Marks (23:01), Richard Cookson (23:31), Max Chippington (23:25), Neil Wilsher (24:36) and Michael Kinder (24:22) were the five competitors who completed the R&N line-up.
