John Moreland becomes World Leader in M60 Discus

It was a very truncated Track & Field Season with few competitions and many tracks not being open, but in spite of that John Moreland had a busy time and successful time becoming the World Leader in the M60 Discus

In March John won Gold in the BMAF Indoors Champs and Winter Throws (Lee Valley, 7March 2020), with a distance of 51.49m, a new Championship Best. That put him number one in the World.

All championships were cancelled in the summer as you know, but he entered the World Masters Virtual Challenge which was timed to coincide with the Toronto World Championships. He competed in the Hull Pilot Event on 25th July at Costello, and broke his own British Record 4 times, and finished with a new PB and new British Record of 56.84m. That extended his lead in the World Rankings and placed him first in the WM Virtual Challenge. It is a new club record in the M60 discus.

He only competed 6 times in the year, including March and his poorest event saw him throw 50.52m. He recently entered the World Masters Virtual Challenge Hemispheres edition, for events between mid-August and 1st November, and submitted a performance from another event at Hull ((6 September, Costello), of 51.63m, which placed him first in that challenge, ahead of an American with a throw of 51.44m. That American is the only other M60 who has thrown over 50m in the world rankings this year so far. John has exceeded that distance in 4 of his 6 events this season.

Congratulations to John on some great performances
