Angela Copson and Emily Waugh strike Gold

R&N duo earn weekend success across the UK

Angela Copson and Emily Waugh made it a double gold medal-winning weekend for Rugby & Northampton Athletic Club when the pair took the honours in their respective events at Nottingham and Wolverhampton last weekend.

World-record holder Copson was in her usual stunning form as she led England to victory at the British and Irish Masters International Cross Country Championships, finishing 36 seconds clear of England team-mate Ros Tabor, in a time of 25 minutes and 45 seconds. The R&N athlete was also over a minute ahead of third-placed Margaret Moody in the F65 category.

Waugh was in similarly impressive form at the Midland Counties Five Mile Championships, crossing the line in a time of 31:55 to take first place ahead of Wolverhampton & Bilston pair Tessa Clarke (32:10) and Audrey Wilson (32:59). R&N’s Tilly Lea narrowly missed out on a top-third finish, although her time of 39:03 secured an impressive 25th place among a field of 66 opponents.
