Rugby and Northampton athletes open British Championships

The British Athletic Championships took place over the weekend 28th-29th June.Agility Champions 2014

To open the event Midland based athletic clubs were given the chance to take part in a mixed relay and later an agility event for U13 and U15 age groups.

With the TV cameras and 40ft screens showing the race live it was an experience not to be missed. Made more so when the camera panned from lane to lane showing the crowd the starters in each race.

The U13 team was led off superbly by Bradley Whitehead, passing to Adele Blenkinsop, Alfie Bowers and finally Elizabeth Truslove.

The team came in a very creditable 3rd place in an highly competitive field.

Proving what a shy character he is, Adam Williamson, on appearing on the big screen, kissed his badge and saluted the crowd before launching out of the blocks with speed and power

Sadly a late changeover meant the team would be disqualified, but all credit to Laurone Ager, Sam Tutt and Katie Print on keeping their composure, racing on and still managing to cross the line in 4th place.

The afternoon saw both age groups entered into an agility competition containing events such as standing Long and Triple jumps, 30m sprints and a variety of throws.

Both teams were supported well and worked together, so much so that when the results were announced Rugby and Northampton had won both the U13 and U15 categories and were presented with a Team GB vest, signed by many of the senior athletes including world 60m champion Richard Kilty.

A fantastic day was had by all and congratulations to all our athletes.
