After lifting the trophy for a second year in the Lower age group of the UKYDL (UK Youth Development League) the R & N Upper Age group athletes (U18 and U20) took the stadium in Liverpool in the hope of yet more silverware.
The day started with dreadful conditions with both rain and wind making conditions extremely tricky for all. The R & N athletes started the competition with a bang, however, with international sprinter, Savannah Morgan claiming gold in the long jump and the 400m hurdles team – Elliot Godfrey, Seb Hillard, William Hovell and Ruben Walter all claiming podium finishes to put R & N in contention from the off. The competition was fierce throughout with London based Blackheath & Bromley leading the way throughout. As the competition went on, the outstanding performances flowed with R & N victories in all areas of the match. It was perhaps, Olivia McGhee, who stole the limelight with an incredible trio of victories in the 800m, 1500m and 3000m. Moyo Stumpenhusen also showed his class with an outstanding victory in the discus, as he moved up a weight from 1.5kg to 1.75kg. This competition is a team event, however, and the determination and dedication of the throws team was simply outstanding, with Gabe Mayall, Chelsea Adams and Grace O’Malley all scoring significant victories. Before the relays at the end of the day, the R & N youngsters were in a secure second position behind the runner away victors Blackheath & Bromley. The relays finished with a bang for the R & N outfit, as the U20 women’s 4x100m team scorched to victory in one of the fastest times in the UK this year. An outstanding performance to again finish in second position in the country !!!
