Rugby & Northampton’s upper age groups athletes took a step closer to the National Finals with a comprehensive victory in the second UKYDL match at a sweltering Milton Keynes stadium. With temperatures reaching 30 degrees, the going in the endurance races was always going to be tough but R & N’s Ibrahim Achi set the tone for the rest of the event with an outstanding display of distance running in the first event of the day, the 3000m. Outstanding performances followed – perhaps the pick of the bunch being Rhys Owen with a magnificent vault of 4 m 30m and David Oduwusi with a high jump of 2m 01 cm. The final race of the day also saw R & N dominate as the U18 4 x 400m team cruised to victory.
This means that R & N have won both of the matches this year and only require a top three finish in the final match to claim a place in the prestigious National final.
