Rugby & Northampton AC turned in another stellar performance on Sunday to claim victory in the final UKYDL match held at Solihull. In this competition, teams have two athletes in each event, scoring points based on position. The R & N athletes performed magnificently from the off with high level achievements and gritty performances – the final outcome was never in doubt as the team raced away to win by over 100points, with Birchfield Harriers in second.
The U13 team had several new faces and all fitted in well and competed with maturity. Laike Favier ran the 800m and in only his second ever race, won with a record breaking time of 2 mins 13 – a time which ranks him third in the UK. Charlie Cook, in the javelin, unbelievably also produced an amazing performance of 36 m 20 – the third furthest throw in the UK this year !! There was also a double victory for Zak Thorpe in the long jump and shot and the boys U13 relay completed the day with a dominant victory in the relay.
The U15 boys also performed really well with individual A string victories for Ernest Kisel in the 100m, Josh Mozely in the hammer and Monty Lee in the discus. It was the U15 girls, however, who stole the show with a whole raft of victories. Savannah Morgan was pick of the crop with a magnificent victory in the 100m, a feat replicated by Ella Darby in the 200m and the long jump, Olivia McGhee in the 1500m, Bella Banks in the hurdles, Maia Thompson in the hammer and Alice Berril in the shot and discus. The day ended with the relays and the U15 girls 4 x 100m team went even quicker than their record breaking victories earlier in the year to post a record breaking 50.3 seconds – the fastest in the UK this year !
The team have now qualified for the prestigious regional finals on the 30th July which for the first time will be held at Rugby.
