Having finished second in the National finals of the UKYDL lower league last year, hopes were high that many of these athletes would progress into the upper (U17 and U20) team and develop further and this proved to be the case ! R & N took part in the first UKYDL upper match at Nottingham and produced an unbelievable set of results to win the match by over 200 points from nearest rivals Birchfield.
The day started well with wins for Oliver Wright and Elliot Godfrey in their respective 400m hurdles races and this set the tone for the day, as R & N athletes raced, jumped and threw to victory !
The new crop of first year U17 athletes were particularly impressive, as they stepped up into the higher age group and competed against older athletes.
In the U17W there were individual A string victories for Savannah Morgan (100m), Laura Stenhouse (high jump), Evie Marston(3000m), Ruby Edwards (triple jump and Isabel Mur (80m hurdles) The team rounded off the match with an impressive victory in the 4 x 100m relay, posting one of the quickest times in the UK this year. The U20W also shone, with Charlotte Bowers claiming victory in the hammer, Sophia Barrett in the 400m and Madeleine Jacks in the 3000m.
The boys also excelled with victories for Ned Campbell (3000m), Oliver Parker (110mH, 400mH and long jump) Thomas Brinkley (steeplchase),Charlie Evans (javelin) , Ben Carley (200m), Robbie Dale (400m), Elliot Godfrey (400m H), Ben Smith (1500m steeplechase) and Jeydon Allen Bramble (100mH) and to top off the day, the 4 x 100m team powered to victory with a new club record time of 43.6 secs.
An outstanding team performance, boding well for the season to come. The next fixture in this league will take place at Rugby on Sunday 28th May
