Following on from the previous week’s marvellous victory in the first match of the Lower YDL, it was the turn of Rugby and Northampton AC’s under 17 and under 20 athletes to excel in their first match of the Upper YDL.
The club scored a resounding victory, with a total score of 769 points, with second placed Marshall Milton Keynes scoring 528 points. An astounding number of track and field victories were gained by club members – almost 60! Several athletes scored double victories. For the under 17 men’s team, Moyo Stumpenhusen claimed first places in both the shot and the discus A string events, with personal best performances in both. Jayden Allen-Bramble was victorious in the A string 100m hurdles and long jump, with David Oduwusi gaining firsts in the triple jump A string and high jump B string. Two under 17 women also scored double firsts: Olivia McGhee in the 800m and 1500m A-strings, and Maia Thompson in the 300m hurdles and triple jump A events. Gabe Mayall took first places in both the javelin and shot A-strings for the under 20 men, with Hayley Dimond winning the under 20 women’s A-string shot and the B string 100m hurdles, both in new personal best performances.
One of the highlights of the day was the under 17 men’s 4×100 m relay event. Congratulations to the under 17 men’s 4x100m team of Flynn Ridgway, Benjamin Wyle, Harrison Nash and Ernest Kisel who set a new club record of 43.43 in winning their race.
We look forward to the next Upper YDL fixture, being held at Milton Keynes on Sunday 26th May.
