Rugby and Northampton AC travelled to Nuneaton for round 4 of the West Midlands Young
Athletes Cross Country League on 14th January. The club scored another resounding victory in
the overall team competition, with every team finishing in the top 4 in their respective age groups.
The under 11 girls all ran with determination, with a strong finish giving Elsie Ruskin-Wilson an
excellent 8th place. Rex Nicklin in 9th position and Jan Hemmington in 10th led home our under
11 boys’ team, with the top five Rugby and Northampton competitors finishing in the top 23. This
gave them 1st place in the team competition.
The under 13 girls raced well in a very competitive field, with Bella Lamb leading the team home in
3rd place, and Amelie Heron also gaining a top ten position. The under 13 boys saw all of Rugby
and Northampton’s athletes finish strongly, spearheaded by Freddie Love in 20th place.
Olivia McGhee made it four victories out of four league races with a very impressive race. She
was ably supported by Peyton Almond in 10th place, Claudia Terrell in 18th, Esther HutchinsMorant 21st and Merryn Hutchins-Morant 23rd to give the team a clear victory in the team race.
The under 15 boys packed well to gain 3rd place in the team competition, with Jamie Styring our
first finisher in 26th place.
The under 17 women as always gave of their very best, with Rebecca Eaton finishing 6th, Ava
Rogerson 17th and Jemima Cooper 21st. The under 17 men raced home to second place in the
team event, with Ibrahim Achchi gaining a superb individual 2nd place. He was followed home by
Ben Smith in an excellent 6th position, and the ever reliable Dylan Mander in 16th.
The final fixture of the league takes place on 11th February in Wolverhampton, when the overall
team and individual awards will be decided.
