Rugby & Northampton AC kicked off the season with a truly outstanding performance at the UKYDL Upper age group (U17 and U20) Midlands Premiership match which was held at the Commonwealth Stadium in Birmingham. Right from the off, it was clear the team was strong and was excelling in all areas ! It was perhaps in the throws, however, where the youngsters really shone. Hayley Dimond won all the U20W throws with outstanding distances whilst Grace O’Malley and Afua Agordo dominated the U17 throws. For the boys, Moyo Stumpenhusen produced one of the longest ever discus throws in the UK as he threw a record breaking 56m 35 cm. There were also impressive victories for Charlie Cook, Giane Marsell and Gabe Mayall in the javelin events, whilst Jack Hancock recorded a massive throw of 53m 13 cm to claim victory in the hammer by over 25 metres.
The impressive performance were not restricted to the throws, however, as the team racked up a whole feast of sublime performances on the track and over the hurdles.
The result of this opening match never seemed in doubt with the club finally securing victory by over 240 points from its nearest rivals, Birchfield Harriers. The second of these regional matches take place at Rugby on May 25th
