Having won the regional round of the UK Youth Development League, Rugby and Northampton AC were invited to compete in the National Finals against the other top clubs in the country. This is a competition for under 17 and under 20 athletes.
The standard of the event was extremely high with National champions and international athletes in many events but the R & N youngsters did themselves proud.
Individually there were victories for the following; U20 age group – Numeiri Saeed 400m, Oliver Parker 400mH, Thomas Brinkley steeplechase, Archie Street long jump, Alice Bennett 800m, Hayley Dimond shot and Charlotte Bowers hammer.
For the younger age groups, there were victories for Harrison Nash 200m, David Oduwusi triple jump, Olivia McGhee 800m and steeplechase and Grace McCollin hurdles.
It was the team ethos within the club which shone through, however, with athletes competing in their less favoured events or multiple events to help the team. Because of this, R & N were to the fore throughout the day, eventually finishing in second place – a simply stunning result, reflecting the hard work, coaching and organisation which happens at the club. A massive congratulations to all athletes, coaches, parents and officials at the club for making this possible.
