Track & Field

Rchael PearceThe club competes as a combined Men’s & Ladies team in Division 1 of the Midland Track & Field League. This league has a total of 5 Divisions and is open to athletes of age 17 upwards, including Masters. The Midland League has clubs from a wide area stretching from Bristol in the South-West to Stoke in the North and includes some of the country’s leading clubs. There are four matches each season.  There are six clubs in each division with the top two teams being promoted and bottom two being relegated. This ensures a competitive league with close matches where both high quality individual performances and teamwork are required. Each match has a full range of events for men & women with two competitors per event (A & B string), with more points being awarded in the A race. There are also a limited number of C string events to encourage clubs who have strength in depth in particular events. There is also an annual ‘Technical Match’ where all Divisions compete in a single fixture across a limited number of less well supported events, such as Hurdles, Pole Vault, Triple Jump. This provides a high quality of competition in such ‘Cinderella’ events, and is normally far better than the Midland Championship!
