RUGBY & NORTHAMPTON SECURE PROMOTION
Athletics club win promotion from British Athletics League Division 4
Kyle Ennis was in outstanding form as he helped Rugby & Northampton gain promotion out of British Athletics League Division 4 on Saturday 6th August 2016.
The athletics club secured their status as runners-up and a spot in the Division 4 promotion places in Doncaster courtesy of two first-place finishes from Ennis as he set a pair of new club records.
A month after setting an R&N record, Ennis broke it once again as he won the 100-metre race in 10.53 seconds. He matched the feat in the 200m, breaking the previous club record of 21.04 by three hundredths of a second.
Meanwhile, Rico Ewer (PB 10.64) and Caleb Downes (SB 15.66) were victorious in the 100m and 200m B events respectively.
James Wright was another top performer with three impressive wins. A personal best of 1.85m was enough to win the high jump for Wright, while replicating that success in the long jump with an equally impressive leap of 6.65m. He added a third triumph in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.83.
Adam Wright (1:54.59) was victorious in the 800m and Luke Townsend set a season-best 57.31 on his way to first place in the 400m hurdles.
Three other athletes set personal bests on the day as Elisha De Mello (10:00.67) won the 3000m steeplechase, Aidan Leeson (49.72) finished a runner-up in the 400m and Ben Musgrove (4:04.82) crossed the 1500m line in third.
In the B events there were wins for Joshua Faulds (52.53) in the 400m, Connor Aldridge (57.25) in the 400m hurdles and Townsend with a season=best 15.66 on his way to 110m hurdles success.
Relay races proved very successful too for R&N, as the club won both the 4×100 (43.04) and 4×400 (3:25.05).
Joining James Wright with success in the field was veteran John Moreland (36.33m) who came third in the discus throw, and winning the long jump B was Sam Owusu (6.45m).
