This year in the absence of our Santa Run we are attempting to reach the North Pole by Christmas Eve!
It’s a fun event from Clic Sargent and simply involves us logging all the miles we run and adding them together to see if, as a club, we can cover the 2700 miles or so to the North Pole.
This could be just the incentive some of us need to offset that lockdown calorie footprint before Christmas! In order to make it more fun and achievable, the wise elves at Clic Sargent have decided that miles run in a Christmas jumper or Santa hat count double for effort. Miles run by ourselves as well as miles covered in club training sessions count.
Simply post your weekly miles on Facebook, or send them to us at contactus@rugbyandnorthampton.org and we’ll add them all together and post a running tally. We will have some medals and t-shirts for best efforts in various age groups and categories – including the fittest or most determined family!
As well as setting ourselves a healthy challenge, we are also raising money for Clic Sargent, a charity that helps young people undergoing cancer treatment – and their families. One of the good things they do is provide homes away from home, such as Billy’s House in Nottingham, which allows families to stay near their children while they receive treatment. It is open right though the year, including over Christmas.
It’s been very tough for some of us because of Covid-19, so there’s absolutely no obligation to give, but if you do wish to we have a Just Giving page that directs everything we raise to Clic Sargent: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/r-n-ac1 Every £33 we raise pays for a night’s stay for a family in one of Clic Sargent’s homes – so even a little will help.
Otherwise, just join in the effort by logging your miles and sending them in. We’ll accept miles cycled and walked as well: we don’t want to get stranded somewhere in the Arctic Sea!
Let’s get to the North Pole before Christmas and help spread a bit of that magic!
