RUGBY & NORTHAMPTON STARS SMASH CLUB RECORDS
In-form duo Jacob Allen and Angela Copson continue recent domination
Rugby & Northampton athletes Jacob Allen and Angela Copson have starred for the club in recent weeks, seeing a number of records fall with strong displays over a series of events.
Allen has broken club records in the 1,500, 3,000 and 5,000 metres already this season, placing him among the top under-23 athletes in the country.
The 1500m and 3000m records were both smashed in Watford during July, with Allen racing to 1500m glory in the BMC Gold Standard Races in a time of 3:45.11. A fortnight later, Allen returned to the town for the Watford Open Graded Meeting, where he set another personal-best time of 8:05.71 to finish second in a highly-competitive field.
The 20-year-old then competed in the Memorial Rasschaert event in Ninove, Belgium, among another supremely-talented field. The youngster’s time of 13:53.30 saw him earn 17th spot, and moved him to fourth in the UK Rankings over the distance at under-23 level.
Elsewhere, veteran Angela Copson has also been dominating V65 categories both in the UK and further afield. The 68-year-old broke a world record over a one-mile distance in Solihull in July, setting a time of 5:54.59, and she has added to her impressive haul with a gold medal in the World Masters Championships.

ahead of her rivals in 21:51.98 – and she could well add to her tally with the competition in Lyon, France, still ongoing.
