The National indoor athletics championships were staged at Sheffield at the weekend and Rugby & Northampton athletes excelled at the highest level. The pick of the performances came from Ella Darby in the U15 girls 300m race. Having concentrated on cross country running this Winter, Ella turned her attentions to the long sprint. Ella won her heat and then in the final led from gun to tape to take the National final in an outstanding time of 41.10 secs – one of the fastest ever recorded in the UK
There were also impressive performances from a whole raft of R & N athletes. Cameron McGregor smashed his life-time best in U20 400m with 48.84 secs, claiming 4th position – agonisingly short of a National standard. Ernest Kisel, competing in his first indoor season, excelled in the U15 boys 60m, claiming a 5th position in an unbelievable 7.50 secs. Olivia Monk produced stellar performances in the U15 girls sprints, claiming 6th position in the U15 girls 60m with a best time of 7.95 secs. The sprints squad of Isabella Banks, Lucy Boyes, Grace McCollin, Maia Thompson, Robbie Dale, Esme Dubois, Isabel Mur and Penelope Jones all turned in outstanding performances and bode well for the upcoming outdoor season.
