Midland Road Relays – Sutton Park, Sat 25th September

Rugby and Northampton AC took part in the annual Midlands road relays – the opening event of the autumn running season. The younger teams each had teams of 3 competing over a 3.8km leg. The U13 boys finished in a encouraging 20th position whilst the U13 girls finished in 10th position with Olivia McGhee producing the outstanding performance. The U15 boys of Arthur Tilt, Nathan Lamb and Ollie Walls  narrowly missed out on a medal finishing in a brilliant 5th position with Nathan producing the12th fastest run of all the athletes taking part. The U17 girls finished in 9th position with Maddy Jacks the outstanding performance. The U17 boys saw the B team beat the A team as the two teams finished in 8th and 17th position respectively – here Dominic Evans was the quickest R and N runner of the day.

Pride of place went to the U15 girls, however. Sophie Hancock led off the team and she was followed by Ava Rogerson who produced a stunning run to bring R and N into 5th position. Multi-talented Ella Darby stormed through the field to bring the home in 3rd position – the first ever medal won by an R and N team !!

 

The senior mens team started the event with high expectations and they did not fail to produce. The team was led off by Finlay Ward and then Ben Musgrove. Alistair McDonnel then took over the baton bringing the team into the top 10. New recruit Andrew Johnstone consolidated the position and then Haydn Arnall sped into 6th position with the fastest R and N time of the day. Jack Bond completed the team bringing the team home in 8th position – equalling the best ever position by am R an N team
