Rugby & Northampton AC Senior mens team started their Winter season with a solid performance at the Midland 6 stage road relay championships, finishing 23rd of the 120 teams that started.
After a late reshuffle John Gercs led the team off finishing in 48th place in a time of 20 mins 53. Hywell Davies then cut through the field to bring the team into 30th position with the team’s fastest time of the day in 19 mins 48. Luke Robinson took a further two place in a time of 20 mins 55. Chris Perez, making a welcome return to racing, ran an excellent leg in 20 mins 3 and brought the team into 22nd position. Ian Botheroyd then ran an extremely positive leg to finish in 19th position in 20 mins 25 secs and the team was completed by Stephen Milner who ran 21 mins 54 secs.
The B team was led off by track specialist Gary Wallace who ran 21 mins 47. Max Chippington ran 24 mins 7, Aaron Lincoln ran 24 mins 4 and team was completed by Nathan Smith in an encouraging 22 mins 39.
A solid performance from all runners which bodes well for the cross country season ahead. The next club race is the Midland cross country relays on October 5th.
The Senior Ladies finished 24th with four athletes each running a distance of 4.315km.
Of the 87 teams that started Emily Waugh came home in a superb 3rd place on the first leg with a time of 15.39, which was the 10th fastest time of the day. She had great back up from Charlotte Inwood with 20.28 on leg 2, Kate Williams with 18.57 and Daisy Melville on the anchor leg in 17.22
