Rugby & Northampton AC hosted the third in the series of Midlands League athletics match knowing that an outstanding team performance was required to remain in contention in the league and the athletes did not disappoint. The team was made up of a variety of youth and experience and they produced a whole string of high level performances.
In the sprints, there were A string victories for Fabien Powell, Marvic Pamphile and Sophia Barrett whilst Josh Faulds raced to an impressive time in the 400m hurdles. The longer events also brought R & N success with Sam Aris winning the 800m, Haydyn Arnall and Lucy Stevens both claiming first place in their respective 1500m races whilst both Alice Belcher and Joseph Comerford raced to impressive success in the 5000m. In the throws events, there were impressive performances from Grace Pollard, Kerry Murch, Charlotte Bowers, Marvic Pamphile, Ray McKenna and Wayne Jones.
The afternoon was rounded off by the relays which saw the ladies win the 4 x 100m whilst the 4 x 400m mens team of Marvic Pamphile, Josh Faulds, Numeiri Saeed and Oliver Parker raced to a new club record of 3 min 17 – one of the fastest times in the UK this year.
The club won the match on the day and moved up to 4th overall, so they now need to beat Bristol & Cannock in the final fixture at Birmingham University on 9th September to retain their top flight statys
