Young Athletes
After a very successful track and field season, Rugby and Northampton AC’s young athletes took to the roads for the Midland Counties Road Relays at Sutton Park on Saturday 21st September. Competing against the top clubs in the Midlands, the R&NAC athletes all acquitted themselves very well.
The stars of the show were the under 13 Girls’ team of Bella Lamb, Amelia Lee and Elsie Rudkin-Wilson. The three girls all ran magnificently to finish in an amazing second place and earn themselves silver medals. Bella Lamb also ran the second fastest leg of the day of all competitors in the under 13 Girls’ race – a fantastic performance.
In the under 13 Boys’ race R&NAC had two teams finish in the top 23, with the A team 14th and the B team 23rd. Miles Taylor ran the fastest leg of the R&NAC athletes.
Our under 15 teams all ran with determination and placed well amongst very tough competition. In the girls’ race the A team was placed 11th and the B team 22nd, with Jess Lamb running the fastest R&NAC leg. The boys’ team finished a very creditable 13th, with Jamie Styring the fastest R&NAC athlete.
In the under 17 competitions, Olivia McGhee ran the third fastest leg of all athletes in the under 17 Women’s race. In the under 17 Men’s race the club had four teams competing, a tremendous achievement. The A team gained a marvellous top ten position, finishing 9th. The B team finished 17th, the C team 25th and the D team 28th. R&NAC were the only club in the race to have four teams finish – this is testament to the strength in depth in this age group. A superb run from Nathan Lamb saw him record the 7th equal fastest leg of all competitors; well done Nathan!
The performances from all the youngsters promise much for the 2024/25 cross- country season and the National Road Relays in October.
