Goodwin continues stunning form to lead R&N AC Men

George Goodwin continued his stellar start to 2014 as he added a top 30 finish in Division One of the Birmingham Cross Country League to his Warwickshire Under 20 Men’s Cross Country Championship from last weekend.

The 17 year-old had the honour of leading the R&N A team home on his league debut as he finished in 26^th position with a time of 29.08 over 5.5 miles at Coventry’s Coundon Hall Park.

William Gardner (53^rd, 30.23) was the next R&N man to complete three laps of the muddy conditions, while Robert Gardner achieved his highest ever Birmingham league placing of 56^th in a time of 30.27. Hywel Davies (61^st, 30.32) finished ahead of Stephen Marks (31.46), who achieved 95^th place on his league debut. Pete Belfield made up the A team with his highest placing so far, a time of 31.58 was enough to see him home in 101^st, for a team position of ninth on the day, meaning R&N lie 10^th in the overall series.

It was a day to remember for Vince Carroll (144th) as he notched up 50 appearances in the B team with a time of 33.27, while Terry Egan (191^st) celebrated a century of scoring finishes for R&N as he ran a time of 35.20. Chris Lamb (111^th, 32.18), Brendan Moen (135^th, 33.05), Jonathan Sarkies (183^rd, 35.05) with his highest placing and Nigel Roberts (35.11) helped secure seventh for the B team, who currently lie in fifth place in the series. Pete Thomas (209^th, 36.13), Max Chippington (210^th, 36.34) and Richard Franklin (236th, 39.58) were also in action in division one round three, with the fourth and final round set to take place on Saturday, February 8^th at Pittville Park, Cheltenham.

Emily Waugh’s time of 24.15 across 6km at Droitwich was enough to secure her 16^th place in the Midland Womens League and earn her the title of Senior Ladies Club Cross Country Champion for the first time.

Taking her third top 20 placing of the season, Waugh once again led the R&N ladies team, who took their highest placing of the campaign, finishing in 14^th. Junior athletes Rosanna Andrews (30^th, 25.05) and Tilly Lea (110^th, 28.47) put in promising showings as they also scored for the club.

Kate Williams (113^th, 29.04) just missed out on a scoring performance while Helen West (147th, 31.52) and Kirstan Boynton (151^st, 32.01) both performed solidly on their league debuts.
