Pair top the club rankings at the latest East Midlands Grand Prix
Robert Gardner led the Rugby & Northampton Athletic Club senior men home at the Blisworth Five on Friday night as they secured a top-five finish in the club standings.
Gardner completed the five-mile course with a time of 27.57 to finish in 12th place overall. Less than 30 seconds behind was team-mate Chris Lamb, who finished two places back in 14th, in front of R&N athletes Sam Turnell (19th, 29.14) and Daniel Mould (29th, 30.16)
The results saw the club take fifth in the team standings with a total time of 114.56 for their top four finishers – a result echoed by the club’s fifth place in the women’s.
Charlotte Murphy (38.10) took victory in the junior women, while Alison Cooper (35.13) was seventh-place finisher in the F35 category. Veteran racer Angela Copson showed her class with victory in the F65 group, winning the race by a full 12 minutes thanks to a time of 34.34 – a result that saw R&N finish with a total of 107.57 in the team standings.
Brendan Moen just missed out on a top-three finish in the M45 with a time of 29.22, but saw his Veteran Men’s team finish as runners-up on the night with a four-man total of 122.00.
Vince Carroll’s time of 29.27 saw him place fifth in the M40, just in front of Mike Andrews (30.05) in eighth. Alan Mould completed the side with a time of 33.06, enough to see him finish 10th in the M50.
