As the season drew to a close with the YDL Finals and the Club Championships, we had another nine broken records.
Ben Gidley broke a 7 year old club record in the U13 Boys Javelin with a throw of 39.13m, whilst both Milan Clues in the U15 Girls age group and Lily-May Pursey in the U13 Girls age group both broke their own existing Shot records with throws of 9.81m and 9.44m respectively.
On the track, there was another record for Harry Hughes, who ran 6mins 43.27 seconds for the U20 Men 2000m Steeplechase and now holds the club record for the event at both U17 and U20 levels. In her first attempt at the U17 Women 1500m Steeplechase, Lily Carmichael broke Kirsty Goddard’s recent club record, reducing it to 5mins 30.11 seconds. I am sure Kirsty will respond. Young Tom Jasper broke his existing 300m record in the U15 Boys age group by reducing it to 36.46 seconds.
The club’s relay runners continue to perform superbly with yet another 3 club records being broken. The U20 Women’s 4 x 400m relay team broke a 4 year old record when they ran 4mins 15.65 seconds. Well done to Ellie Welch, Georgina Greenwood, Emily Lancaster and Hannah Scales. Also, the U20 Men broke the 4 x 400m record set earlier this season when they took the record down to 3 mins 23.51 seconds with a team of Scott McIntyre, Luke Townsend, Clinton Osaba-George and Adam Wright. And finally, congratulations to the U15 Boys 4 x 300m relay team of Jay O’Leary, Ewan Roberts, Aidan Leeson and Tom Jasper who not only broke the club record with a time of 2mins 35.77 seconds, but also set a new league record.
If any club member knows of any records that have been broken this season, or indeed of any old records that are not included, please email Jim Elder with details on james.elder56@hotmail.co.uk.
