Saturday saw the first race in the series of Birmingham League Cross Country races for senior men. This league consists of main teams in the Midlands as well the University teams, which are always very strong. The original course at Worcester was waterlogged so the race was transferred to Coundon Park in Coventry which proved to be a challenging, flat and very muddy course.
The race started at breakneck pace with several leading international athletes to the fore. In the front of the chasing pack was Dominic Jones. Dominic ran an extremely well-judged race bringing himself into the top 10 at the start of the second of the three laps. He eventually finished an outstanding 8th position – truly exceptional. Not far behind Dominic came international orienteer, William Gardner in 30th position who in turn was chased home in 39th position by Jack Bond. The remaining scorers were James Wizard in 109th, new recruit, Anthony Clancy in 134th and Alistair Gardener in 139th.
The B team was a real mix of youth and experience, with the team consisting of Cian Hutton, Joe Musgrove, Sam Blackshaw, Adam Bebbington, Terry Egan, and Jon Saw.
The day was also notable for club stalwart Terry Egan completing his 1000th race as Senior / Master. A truly outstanding achievement from a wonderful servant of the club
