It is with great regret that Rugby & Northampton AC advise that Ann has passed away following a long illness which she bore bravely with the support of her family and especially her husband Bob.
Ann joined Rugby & District AC in 1991 and quickly took a leading role in the Ladies Cross-Country and Road Running Team as well as be a regular competitor in the Veterans Track & Field Team. Ann competed at every distance from 800m to the Marathon, completing the London & Dublin Marathon’s amongst others. When the club merged to form Rugby & Northampton AC she took on the role of Team Manager for Ladies Road & Cross Country team and worked hard to make the new club a success. She competed right until she was struck down by illness in early 2012.
As well as competing, Ann took the leading role in organising the clubs 3 annual Road Races, Draycote 5, Rugby 6 & Rugby 10 mile and in doing so helped to raise thousands of pounds on behalf of the club as well as assisting at social events & track promotions. In all of these activities she was actively supported by Bob, and made a Lifetime honorary member of the club for her tireless work over many years.
Ann will be sorely missed by her many friends within the club and those who knew her within the wider sport, and the club would like to send their condolences to Bob, her son Mark and the remainder of her family.
A suitable tribute will be organised at the start of the Rugby 10 mile on Sunday 5th October.
The funeral will be held at All Souls Church, Coventry at 11AM on 6th October, followed by internment at Canley Gardens Cemetery.
No flowers by request, donations may be sent to Myton Hospice in Ann’s memory.
