A Santa Record!
A record number of Santas took part in Sunday’s 5th Rugby Santa Run, based at
Rugby Athletics track. More than 700 runners, from tiny tots to grey-haired veterans,
dressed in traditional red costumes ran one of three courses on offer.
Deputy Mayor Councillor Helen Taylor and Rugby MP Mark Pawsey were kept busy
throughout the morning presenting the runners with medals, trophies and prizes,
whilst teams of volunteers handed out mince pies and drinks.
Winner of the turkey prize for first place in the 5K run was Adam Wright and first
lady home was Zoe Shepherd. First junior to cross the line was Joe Musgrove whilst
Olivia Sheehan took the junior girls trophy. Zoe Gardner and Oscar Delgado-Major
finished first girl and boy in the one mile Santa Dash respectively.
“A fabulous, festive, fun morning for the whole family” said participant Claudia
Lindstrom “My children LOVED it and are still wearing their medals with pride”
The annual charity event was put together by Rugby & Northampton Athletic Club,
supported by the Rotary Club of Rugby. Main sponsors were Xercise 4Less and
Nicholls Building and Plumbing Merchants, with help from other local firms who
sponsored the race numbers.
Proceeds and sponsorship money raised will go to R&NAC Clubhouse Fund and
Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance.
