Athletics club preparing for a big day at the County Championships in Corby

Rugby & Northampton are set to take on the county’s best at the 69th Northamptonshire Athletics Association Track & Field Championships on 14th and 15th May at Corby’s Rockingham Triangle.

Under-20 athlete Eleanor Broome is ranked as England’s second best long jumper and she will be aiming to make it two consecutive years at the top of the standings after claiming first in the U17 competition in 2015.

Broome was also victorious in the U17 100 metres last year but will be facing current U20 champion and R&N team-mate Simone Ager this time around in the higher age group.

Also moving up an age group is Oliver Lambert, who will be aiming for 100m and 200m success after conquering four events last year, but he will have a battle with fellow R&N sprinter Franklin Fenning.

Clinton Osoba-George will be trying to add the Senior Men’s 100m title to his U20 crown from 2015; club-mate and last year’s runner-up Rico Ewer will now attempt to turn last year’s U20 silver into gold.

One of the best races of the Championships is likely to be the U17 Men’s 800m. Adam Searle won a close race last year against team-mate Joe Musgrove in the U15 category and now both athletes are moving up to face last year’s U17 runner-up Joshua Lay.

Another good competition between two R&N athletes is expected in the U15 Girl’s javelin with last year’s U13 winner Abigail Ward moving up to face the current champion Abigail Pearce with less than a metre separating the pair this season.

Also in the javelin, last year’s U17W champion and English Schools fourth-placer, Evie Harris-Jenkins, will be competing in the U20 event, while Kiona McLennon will be a big favourite in the U20W’s shot put.
