Rugby Borough Council has an Annual Sports Awards scheme, and last Wednesday 5th March, the Awards for 2013 to celebrate sporting success in that year were held. There were several category’s and Ellena Ruddock was nominated for the Sportswoman of the Year for 2013. There were 4 finalists for the Award, and Kerry Murch was nominated together with a canoeist who was a GB Junior European Champion, a Swimming Synchronist who made her debut for Team GB, and Ellena for her success in winning the World Masters 100m and 200m in Turin, winning the European Masters Indoor Championships at 60m and 200m, and winning the UK Masters Championship at 60m and 200m and was ranked No.1 in UK, European and the World.
Ellena won the award.
Three days after winning Rugby Borough Council’s Sportswoman of the Year 2013 award, sprinter Ellena Ruddock continued to add to her amazing collection of titles. This time at the Lee Valley Indoor Stadium in North London, where the UK Masters Indoor Championships, were held over 2 days.
Ellena, who has been ranked No.1 in the UK Masters O/35 category for the last 2 years, opened up her 3rd year in that category, by winning both the 60m and 200m titles. In the 60m event, Ellena had some quality opposition from former GB 400m International, Lesley Owusu. Ellena produced a seasons best performance to win in 7.90 secs from Owusu who was second in 7.97 secs.. On the following day, Ellena had Owusu to contend with again in the 200m event. Again it was a very tight race, but once again Ellena was able to maintain her UK No.1 ranking by winning the 200m in 25.52 secs from Owusu in 25.79 secs.
These two wins are the stepping stone to the World Masters Indoor Championships which are being held in Hungary in Budapest in 2 weeks time. Ellena will be defending her two titles again at 60m and 200m. So everything is now in place for her.
