Sunday saw the staging of the annual England Relay Championships at the Commonwealth stadium in Birmingham and Rugby & Northampton AC were represented throughout with a whole host of unbelievable performances!
The U15G 4 x 100m team of Naomi Kabalika, Millie Anna Snell, Ava Hession and Nina Npkey, started the proceedings claiming 2nd place in their heat with an equal club record of 49.36. For most of the quartet, this was the first experience of athletics on the stage and they performed magnificently in the final, finishing in 4th position – agonisingly just outside of the medals
The U15B were next up and the team of Keanu Thomas, Liam Mumbure, Croyde Wood and Jaunty Campbell Archer went one better claiming a brilliant bronze position – bettering the previous club record in both the heat and the final, finishing with a simply stunning 45. 07.
The U17 women also qualified for the final and finished in 5th position in a rapid 47.46 secs.
The U20 men roared through their heat, winning in a new club record of 41.39 but tragedy struck on the final change as they there in contention for a podium finish and were unable to complete the race.
Such is the strength in depth in the U15 girls that the club could also field a team in 4 x 300m relay. The team of Isla Kendall, Matilda Bean, Phoebe Roberts and Emily Elden were in contention throughout eventually finishing in silver position in an unbelievable 2m 51.69.
The best was left to the end, however, as the U20W took to the track. In their heat, the team of Lucy Boyes, Olivia Monk, Esme du Bois and Savannah Morgan looked imperious clocking a new club record of 46.90 – they then went even quicker in the final, storming to victory and were crowned England Champions with a time of 46.03 secs – the third fastest club time of all time !!
