Rugby and Northampton AC’s young athletes competed in the second fixture of the
West Midlands Cross Country League at Newbold Revel on 12th November. The
club’s athletes excelled, with every age group team finishing in the top five. This
incredible team effort gave Rugby and Northampton first place in the overall
competition.
The U17 boys claimed first team place, with Malachy Collins in a superb individual
second place. The strength in depth saw four Rugby and Northampton athletes in
the first eight finishers, with a further five runners in the top 23. Likewise the U15
girls’ team finished first, as Olivia McGhee stormed to individual victory, with all five
Rugby and Northampton scorers finishing in the top 22.
The U11 girls were led home by Scarlett Nicklin, with five club athletes finishing
within six seconds of each other. The U11 boys ran superbly in a tough race, with
Alfred Bartup, Rex Nicklin and Jan Hemmington all securing top ten places.
Our U13 girls all gave very determined performances, with Bella Lamb achieving an
excellent 3rd place. The U13 boys worked hard in a very competitive race; Freddie
Love and Alex Kampta both gained top 20 places.
The U15 boys ran with true resolve, ably led home by Freddie Harris in 4th place
and Jack Twining in 9th. The U17 girls showed real commitment, led by Sophie
Hancock in 11th spot, very closely followed by Rebecca Eaton in 12th.
It was a superb performance overall from the club’s athletes, with every runner
contributing to a great team performance on the day.
