AT ENGLAND CROSS COUNTRY RELAYS

Athletic club impress among the country’s best at event in Mansfield

Rugby & Northampton were in impressive form at the weekend’s England Cross Country Relays in Mansfield, with a number of athletes starring at the hugely competitive national event.

The club had a vast number of athletes competing, with top performances coming from the under-15 boys and the under-13 girls ‘A’ teams.

The boys secured a fantastic fourth place out of 74 teams – a total time of 19 minutes and 33.05 seconds seeing them narrowly miss out on the medals. Adam Searle produced the fifth quickest leg of the race, running an outstanding 6:20.90, and he was backed up by Joe Musgrove and Adam Caulfield who came home in 6:29.75 and 6:42.40 respectively. There were also ‘B’ and ‘C’ string teams competing in the race, and they earned fine overall finishes of 30th and 44th.

There were 66 teams battling it out for supremacy in the U13 girls race, and the ‘A’ string came an excellent 14th courtesy of strong runs from Claudia Searle (7:54.45), Neve Satchwell (7:53.00) and Amelia McMurtrie (8:28.05), while the ‘B’ team also earned a respectable 30th place, led by Amelia Dickens in 8:10.40.

Continuing with the girls and Amy Walker, who shone for the U15s, completing the opening leg of the race in 7:21.90 – the 14th fastest among an 85-team field. The ‘A’ team secured 34th overall, while the ‘B’ string took 42nd place. The club also had teams running in the U17W and U20W races, placing 47th in the former, while the ‘A’ and ‘B’ strings finished an impressive 11th and 21st in the U20 contest.

Back to the boys, who had teams taking part in the U13, U17 and U20 events. The U13 ‘A’ and ‘B’ strings finished 42nd and 69th among a supremely strong field of young athletes, the U17 runners took 49th and 52nd, while the U20 ‘A’ and ‘B’ athletes grabbed a respectable 29th and 48th.
