RUGBY & NORTHAMPTON LADIES IMPRESS IN NATIONAL ROAD RELAY

Senior team produce strong performance in six-stage event at Sutton Park

Rugby & Northampton’s Senior Ladies competed in the National six-stage Road Relay at Sutton Park at the weekend, giving a fine account of themselves to finish in 27th place.

After securing 11th in the Midland event two weeks ago, four of the squad returned for this competition, which consisted of two long legs of 5.38 miles and four shorter stages of 3.165 miles.

Gabriella Moriarty ran the opening long leg, as she did in the Midland six-stage, recording a time of 33 minutes and 53 seconds to hand over in 29th place. Lorna Latimer ran the first short stage on this occasion and was timed at 22:04 on leg two. She was followed by the newly-crowned Veteran Club Cross Country Champion Helen Jones, who covered the three miles in 23:40.

In the Midland event, Emily Waugh ran the sixth fastest time for the short stage and, in completing the long stage this time, recorded 33:13 to make up an impressive four places.

Veteran Kate Williams ran leg five in 24:34, and running the anchor leg once again was Angela Copson. Copson, one week on from her record-breaking Manchester Marathon, completed the final stage in 21:56 to round off an excellent effort by the team.
