England Road Relay Championships – Sutton Park, Birmingham – Sat 6 October

Saturday 6th October saw Rugby and Northampton compete for the first time ever in the prestigious England National Road Relays and the athletes did themselves proud!

In the first race of the day, Ollie Buchan led off the U13 boys team, bringing the team home in 21st position. Lewis Robson consolidated the position with another fine run and passed to Arthur Tilt who scorched around the course to bring the team home in 15th position – a truly outstanding performance by this young team. R and N also fielded a B team consisting of Joshua Robson, Nicholas Marsh and Louis Starr which finished in 53rd position.

The U13 girls also finished in the top 20, finishing in an excellent 19th position with Alice Bennett, Zineb Zbirou and Madeleine Jacks all running well. The club also fielded a B team of Jessica Kempton, Emily Langley and Jemima Lambert which finished in 31st position. The quickest of the R and N runners on the day was Madelaine Jacks

The U15 boys also fielded two teams, to underline their strength in depth at this age group. The quickest of the 6 runners was Noah Bennett, followed closely by his team mates in the A team of Finbar Myers and Louis Buttrick. The team finished in 35th position with the B team of Dominic Evans, Jack Hope and Aidan O’Brien in 49th position.
The U15 girls team of Elspeth Unitt, Alice Bates and Sophia Hill all ran very strongly and finished a highly creditable 28th position, with Alice the fastest of the R and N athletes.
The 3 runners in the U17 men all ran very similar and consistent times and they finished in 39th position. The team was made up of Myles Martin, James Fletcher and Cian Hutton.

The final young athletes race saw the U17 girls team finish in a very promising 30th position with Amelia McMurtrie the quickest of the R and N runners, The team was completed by Abigail Pearce and Isabelle Rippon.

The senior ladies then took centre stage and the opening leg saw Emma Bond produce an outstanding performance to bring the team back in 32nd place. The team was then completed by World Masters champion, Angela Copson, Tilly Lea and Tamara Hardman. The team eventually finished in 53rd position with the B team of Zoe Shepherd, Rhea Cooper, Kate Williams and Olivia Sheehan finished just behind in 62nd.
